NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency, or NTA, has postponed the last application date for over half a dozen entrance exams by a month.
March 30 was the last date of application for several of these. The last date of application has been pushed for the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) exam, Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Exam (JNUEE), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET), National Council of Hotel Management - Joint Entrance Exam (NCHM JEE), PhD programmes of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Management Entrance Exams.
Besides, the application process for all postgraduate programmes in AYUSH or, Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, has also been postponed.
The NTA, which conducts these exams, changed the dates on the advice of the human resource development minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank'.

The HRD Minister said on social media: “To enable students to fill up their application forms during these testing times, I have advised [the director general of the NTA] to postpone the last date of acceptance of applications of ICAR Exam, JNU Entrance Exam, UGC NET, NCHM JEE, IGNOU PhD and Management Entrance Exams by 1 month.”
Earlier, on March 26, Nishank had postponed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) till May. NEET was the second major exam to be postponed.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) was also postponed by NTA earlier this week on MHRD orders.
Besides, theory examinations of PG Medical, Dental and AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) scheduled to be held in May 2020 have been postponed indefinitely until further notice. The new date of examination for these medical courses and their fee notification and time table will be intimated later at the RGUHS website www.rguhs.ac.in.
India is currently under a country-wide lockdown to combat the spread of COVID-19. School annual exams and competitive entrance exams in various states across the country have been postponed till after the lockdown period. For school students except Class 10 and Class 12, students may be granted automatic promotion to the next class based on their year-long performance.
The HRD minister has encouraged the students to stay at home and utilize the COVID-19 lockdown time to study for the postponed exams.
