Ashoka University launches business school, will offer UG programme in liberal arts and management

NEW DELHI: The Ashoka University in partnership with Havells India has announced the establishment of the business school of management and leadership. The new school will to offer undergraduate courses in Applied Liberal Arts and Management in India, aiming to become a top 10 UG course in management-related fields.

Additionally, the school will also offer integrated PG courses in collaboration with leading business schools in India and Abroad.

“The School’s specially designed programnes will provide students with a broad foundation in the liberal arts with its emphasis on multi-disciplinarity, critical thinking, communication, and leadership while allowing them to specialise in management, business, and entrepreneurship,” the Ashoka University statement said.

The new School will focus on humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and computer science fields. The School’s management programmes will be integrated with Ashoka’s liberal education and approach.

The commitment to Ashoka University by Havells India aims to carry forward the legacy of its founder, the late Qimat Rai Gupta who made the first grant to the university back in 2014.

“The commitment of Rs 250 crore to School of Management and Leadership is Havells India’s third and largest commitment to Ashoka. The endowment will be spread over a period of time,” the Ashoka University statement adds.

Ashoka University's new business school

The new school will facilitate student exchange programmes, joint programmes, market-recognised certifications, executive education programmes and provide visiting and cross-appointed faculty collaborations, both in India and abroad. The school will also set up centres of excellence to encourage and focus entrepreneurship amongst students.

The vision of the new school is to offer courses which are at par with Saïd Business School of Oxford University, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, etc.

Pramath Raj Sinha the founder and chairperson of the Board of Trustees at Ashoka University said: “The establishment of the Havells School of Management and Leadership marks an important milestone in Ashoka University’s journey. We are building a new model of management education that combines the rigour of business thinking with the foundations of liberal arts.”
