Assam Down Town University awards KIIT founder with 60th Honorary Doctorate

NEW DELHI: Assam Down Town University Guwahati (AdtU), recently honoured Dr Achyuta Samanta, founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) & KISS University with the 60th honorary doctorate award. Achyuta Samanta is a well-known social worker and an educationist. The honour was presented during the university's 11th convocation ceremony, the AdtU statement said.

The award recognition is a testament to Samanta's significant contributions in various fields of education including health, tribal development, arts, culture, literature, and rural development. Assam Down Town University acknowledged Samanta's outstanding efforts in all areas by honouring him, AdtU statement added.

However, due to personal commitments, Samanta was unable to attend the ceremony in person, but a representative accepted the award on his behalf. Samanta expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university for the honour, the AdtU note adds.

As per the AdtU notice, Samanta recorded in a message and said: “For the last 33 years I have been working relentlessly for the people in the society, this 60th honorary doctorate will be remembered by me for all times to come.” He also promised a visit to the university soon.

“Samanta has received numerous honorary doctorates from prestigious universities and institutions worldwide for his exemplary work in social service and education. In 2009, he received his first honorary doctorate from Cambodia National University. He earned a total of 60 honorary doctorates from institutions across the globe,” the AdtU statement added.
