Azim Premji University announces 150-acre campus in Ranchi; offers MA, diploma, certificate programmes

The Azim Premji University’s Ranchi campus will begin this year with MA in applied economics and development.

Azim Premji University has established its campus in Ranchi to expand higher education opportunities in eastern India. The institute states that the campus will offer programmes across disciplines such as development, education, economics, public health, climate change, and sustainability. The university already has campuses in Bangalore and Bhopal.

According to the official press release, the 150-acre Ranchi campus, located in Itki, will be fully residential, featuring classrooms, laboratories, sports facilities, and housing for students and faculty. The university plans to establish a teaching hospital and medical college as part of the campus. The infrastructure will include energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, and water treatment facilities.

The Ranchi campus will begin this academic year by offering two Master of Arts (MA) programmes: MA in applied economics and MA in development. In addition, the campus will provide postgraduate diplomas in local development, early childhood education, and educational assessment, as well as short-term certificate programmes in public health, education, and development.

Faculty combine academic and field experience

The university said the courses are designed to reflect the development context of Jharkhand and eastern India, and faculty members will combine academic expertise with field experience. The campus will actively engage with local communities, including Adivasi groups, ensuring that learning is connected to regional realities.

Sharing the vision for the Ranchi campus, Zulfiquar Haider, vice-chancellor designate – Azim Premji University, Ranchi campus, said, “We want the Ranchi campus to be closely connected to the Social and Developmental needs of this region and contribute to building knowledge and human resources’. “

He further said that “the university will offer a range of programs and courses that will suit the needs of diverse students and learners, including working professionals. The university aims to meaningfully engage with the rich traditions, histories, knowledge systems and worldviews of the diverse Adivasi and other communities of Jharkhand.”
