DU Foundation distributes Rs 2.35 crore laptops among 524 girl students under Project Sashakt Beti

The University of Delhi Foundation organised Samarpan Samaroh 2026 on Thursday at the Convention Hall, Vice Regal Lodge. During the event, laptops worth Rs 2.35 crore were distributed to 524 girl students under Project Sashakt Beti.

The beneficiaries included orphaned students and those from single-parent families with an annual household income below Rs 4 lakh.

The programme also marked the launch of the second phase of Project Sashakt Beti in collaboration with Bombay Suburban Electric Supply (BSES), as per the official release.

Vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh thanked BSES for its contribution, saying the initiative reflected a larger social responsibility towards education.

Singh said, “Investment in education is among the most meaningful forms of nation-building,” and urged public sector units and companies to support universities.

NEP 2020 focuses on digital access

Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, Singh noted that the four-year undergraduate programme would reshape the academic ecosystem and called on faculty members to guide students with dedication.

Group CEO and Director of BSES, Amal Sinha, said the decision to provide laptops was taken keeping in mind the technological needs of contemporary education.

He further said that the initiative aimed to strengthen students’ access to digital learning tools and added that BSES would continue its association with the University of Delhi through similar projects.

Anil Kumar, CEO of the University of Delhi Foundation, said the initiative was undertaken to empower young women and expand their access to digital education.

DU registrar Vikas Gupta delivered the vote of thanks, highlighting the importance and role of the foundation in mobilising institutional and corporate support for student welfare. Senior university officials, deans, faculty members, alumni and project beneficiaries were present at the event.
