Banaras Hindu University imparts training to 43 ‘Teach for BHU’ fellows

Under BHU's TFB fellowship, the research scholars get a fellowship of Rs 40,000 per month and Rs 6,000 HRA over 12 months.

NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University organised a two day training and orientation programme for ‘Teach for BHU’ programme for 43 research scholars selected for the fellowship. The programme inaugurated by BHU registrar professor Arun Kumar Singh equipped the fellows with skills for effective teaching, teaching methods and their use across subjects and disciplines, international trends in teaching-Learning and use of online learning platforms like SWAYAM, MOOCs etc.

"The training sessions during the programme were an opportunity for the fellows to strengthen their understanding on the values and ethics in teaching and research as well as on the importance of academic and co-curricular activities for achieving educational goals," said an official statement from the university.

The registrar said that the initiative attempts to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical spheres of knowledge. Explaining the philosophical, sociological and psychological perspectives of education, professor Sunil Kumar Singh, coordinator of the fellowship said that strengthening the inner-self is as important as polishing one’s external skills and abilities.

This is what the ancient Indian wisdom also talks about, added Singh, as he referred to the scriptures like Upnishadas, Bhagvad Gita and various Indian philosophies and yoga.

Professor Sanjay Kumar, Coordinator, Institution of Eminence (BHU), called upon the participants to inculcate the training imparted to them in their practical working and behavior. The Teach For BHU Fellowship has been launched under IoE (BHU) initiative.

The scheme is open to research scholars who have submitted or are expected to submit their PhD thesis (within six years of the date of admission, not the registration date). A candidate selected under the TFB receives a fellowship of Rs 40,000 per month and Rs 6,000 HRA over the 12 month period of engagement.
