NEW DELHI: The Karnataka government has announced school closed in Bengaluru city district due to heavy rain forecast. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert and predicted an increase in intensity of the rain on October 16 and 17. In this regard, the Bengaluru Urban District collector Jagadeesha ordered and declared a holiday for Anganwadi centre, government and private schools of all taluks of the city.
As it is a government holiday on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanthi, schools in the state will be closed on October 17 as well.
“For all other degree, postgraduation, diploma, engineering, ITIs, no holiday has been announced, a general instruction has been given to the heads of the colleges and the concerned persons to consider the following points while conducting lectures in the colleges,” the official circular read.
1. The head of the college shall see to it that the students reach the college safely and without any danger on their way home.
2. If there are weak or dilapidated buildings such spaces should not be used for lectures. In this regard, the heads of the colleges should pay attention to the good condition of the college buildings and take appropriate measures to avoid any accidents.
3. As a precautionary measure, vacation has been declared and to compensate for the lack of learning time, extra classes will be held on Saturday afternoons or Sundays.
4. Parents and college heads of students should ensure that students do not go to low lying areas where there is water.
5. Colleges should ensure the safety of vehicles used by students to reach campus.
6. College administrations have been instructed to provide information to students about natural disaster management.
