KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said schools and colleges would reopen from November 15, and directed the chief secretary to take necessary measures to facilitate the process.

Banerjee, after attending an administrative review meeting at Uttar Kanya in Siliguri, asked Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi to ensure proper cleaning and sanitisation of educational institutions before they reopen. Schools and colleges in the state have been closed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March last year.

Meanwhile, today schools in Karnataka re-opened for students of classes 1 to 5 from Monday, strictly adhering to Covid-19 related precautions and guidelines. However, several private schools in the city and in different places across the state, have decided to reopen schools for these students only after Deepavali, official sources said.

Maharashtra government had also decided to reopen schools from October 25, today with COVID-19 protocols. But, now the government may resume schools for primary schools after Diwali as per report.

As COVID-19 cases decline across the country, educational institutions have started reopening for physical classes.
