NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University has launched a new internship programme for library science graduates and postgraduates. The programme, funded by the ministry of education’s institution of eminence initiative will equip interns with essential skills while enhancing the library operations at BHU.
As per the official press release, the programme honours the legacy of Dr SR Ranganathan, the pioneer of modern library science in India. The internship programme will offer practical experience in library operations, bringing in innovative ideas and perspectives from young professionals.
The programme will initially select 20 interns for a one-year internship, with a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000. High-performing candidates may receive an extension of up to one year. Interns who complete a minimum of six months will be awarded a certificate of internship.

According to official press release, the vice-chancellor of BHU, Sudhir Kumar Jain said that the Dr SR Ranganathan internship programme is a reflection of BHU’s commitment to opening new pathways for growth and learning, while also bringing extraordinary talent on board. “This scheme will offer a wonderful opportunity to aspiring library professionals to hone their skills and prepare themselves for future roles”, added Sudhir Kumar Jain.
As per the institute, the programme has contributed to improving the skills of interns and the efficiency of library operations. The Dr SR Ranganathan internship program provides opportunities for growth and learning for Library Science graduates and postgraduates from the top 100 Indian universities. The program will be managed by the Sponsored Research Industrial Consultancy Cell (SRICC) of the university.
