NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has set up a dedicated “Student Leadership and Life Skills Development Initiative'' and “Student Well-Being Initiative” for its various institutes and faculties. The new initiatives are in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiatives will provide holistic and multidisciplinary education to its students, a university statement said.

The initiatives will include the formation of committees for the faculty of visual arts, faculty of education, institute of management, and faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan (SVDV). The committees will be guided by the vice-chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain.

According to BHU, the main focus will be on addressing the psychological concerns of students, promoting resilience, and ensuring their overall well-being. The committees will plan and implement activities to foster the development of soft skills, social skills, and personal and professional capabilities in the students.

The ‘Student Leadership and Life Skills Development Initiative aims to help students in their personal and professional growth. The initiative will collaborate with internal and external resource persons, facilitators, and mentors to organise workshops and activities on leadership, emotional intelligence, resilience, professional skills, and life skills.

On the other hand, the ‘Student Well-Being Initiative’ will work on enhancing physical and mental health and provide support to students in need. It will conduct events that promote well-being.

Sudhir Kumar Jain the vice-chancellor of BHU reiterated the university's commitment to the holistic development of its students. According to Kumar,” Outdoor and outreach activities involving students are necessary to train them for social engagement and help them grow as leaders and citizens.”

BHU earlier established similar initiatives for several other faculties and Mahila Mahavidyalaya. The university provides the necessary infrastructure and financial aid to support these initiatives.

Students who participated in the activities and events organised under these initiatives have benefited from mentoring lectures, sessions on mental health, interview preparation, personality development activities, yoga, art workshops, and interactive sessions with experts, and industry leaders, among other offerings.
