Bihar Agricultural University to start new UG, PG and value-added courses; establish technology park

NEW DELHI: The Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, will start several undergraduate, postgraduate and value-added programmes. The decision was taken during the 33rd academic council meeting of Bihar Agricultural University. The council approved 54 agendas related to academics in the meeting held on March 4.

Bihar Agricultural University vice-chancellor DR Singh presided over the meeting. Secretary of the academic council Mizanul Haq and CACP member Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) member NP Singh also participated in the meeting, which was attended by principals of all affiliated colleges, deans, directors and heads of various university departments.

The council gave its approval to start a new undergraduate programme in natural farming. The university will also implement value-added courses in the undergraduate programmes, including artificial intelligence in agriculture.

New master degree programmes

The council also gave its permission to start postgraduate programmes in ethnobotany and sustainable agriculture (two credits). The university will also start master degree programmes in agricultural chemistry and nematology. Permission to start postgraduate programmes in some subjects in university affiliated colleges scuh as Dr Kalam Agriculture College, Kishanganj; Mandan Bharti Agriculture College, Saharsa; Bhola Paswan Sashtri Paswan Agriculture College, Purnea; and V K S College of Agriculture, Dumraon, Dumraon.

The Bihar Agriculture University will also felicitate faculty members and students with awards such as ‘Best Teacher’, ‘Best Thesis’, ‘Student Gold Medal Award’ and others during the upcoming convocation ceremony. To boost the infrastructure in the university, an art gallery and technology park will be established on the campus. BAU-affiliated colleges will also get new technology parks. The council has also permitted to enrol non-resident Indian (NRI) students in 5% seats of undergraduate programmes.
