Roadshow of the first BioNest Bioincubator organized at IIT Jodhpur and IITJ Technology Innovation and Startup Center

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur inaugurated the first BioNest Bioincubator on Monday with a roadshow organised by IIT Jodhpur and its innovation centres, the IITJ Technology Innovation and Startup Center (TISC), a statement from the institute said.
Biotechnology Industry Research Assistant Council (BIRAC) has sanctioned Rs 4.5 Crore to IIT Jodhpur under BIRAC’s BioNEST Programme.
Santanu Chaudhury, director, IIT Jodhpur, inaugurated the ceremony. The roadshow will witness expert talks by various eminent personalities from IIT Jodhpur, AIIMS Jodhpur, Strand Life Sciences and BIRAC.
The BioNEST Bioincubator will primarily focus on healthcare technologies. It will also participate in the activities at the proposed MedTech Park with AIIMS Jodhpur as a partner.
The BioNest will support team formation. It will also work on the generation of technologies that can reduce dependence on the import of medical devices, develop smart sensors, point-ofcare diagnostic devices, implants, therapeutic devices and imaging protocols etc.
The BioNEST Bioincubator will have an in-house pre-incubation programme for encouraging at least five individuals or start-ups per year in the nascent stage to arrive at the proof of concept projects.
It will further incubate a minimum of 15 start-ups in three years leading to the development of at least 10 new products and technologies. It will further support IP generation and employment opportunities for up to 25 persons.
Key focus areas of the proposed BioNEST is primarily to promote and support entrepreneurship in the Healthcare, Medtech, agrotech or pharma segment and allied areas.

The event will witness eminent dignitaries addressing the ‘Spotlight Lecture’. Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, chief scientist, World Health Organization, Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder, Grameen Bank, Dr. Barry Barish, American experimental physicist, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, former chairman, Space Commission/Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO, are among those scheduled to address the students this year.
