BSF cancels ASI steno, head constable exam in Kanpur over technical glitch; re-exam on Sep 18

Kanpur: The BSF recruitment examination for Assistant Sub-Inspector (Stenographer) and Head Constable (Ministerial) posts was cancelled at an examination centre on September 2. The decision was taken after repeated technical failures disrupted the test and students staged a protest. The examination was being conducted at the MD Infotech Centre in Shyam Nagar, Chakeri. The centre, identified as Code 25916, was scheduled to accommodate around 500 candidates across three shifts.

Government job aspirants alleged that the examination process was disrupted from the beginning. Entry for the morning shift was reportedly scheduled for 7:30 am but was delayed, with the examination eventually beginning at around 9 am. According to reports, the computer systems stopped functioning around 15 minutes after candidates began the examination. Staff members reportedly attempted to restore the systems, but the computers shut down again after another 15 to 20 minutes.

The examination could not resume even after around 40 minutes, following which candidates were asked to leave the centre. The disruption led to protests outside the examination centre, with more than 500 students reportedly gathering and demanding a re-examination.

Candidates allege paper leak

Candidates also raised allegations of irregularities and concerns over a possible paper leak. However, authorities cited a technical or electrical failure as the apparent reason for the cancellation and said the matter was being investigated.

ADCP East Shiva Singh said a notice issued by the authorities cancelled the examination scheduled across all three shifts at the centre. He said a technical or electrical fault appeared to be the cause at first glance and that the matter was being examined in detail.

The cancellation also drew a political reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which accused the BJP government of failing to protect the interests of young people preparing for government jobs.

In a post on X, AAP said young Indians spend years preparing for government examinations only to face paper leaks, cancelled exams and "broken promises". The party termed the incident a failure of the BJP government and questioned how many more examinations would have to be cancelled before the government took responsibility. Authorities have announced a re-examination for affected candidates on September 18, 2026. Candidates have been advised to regularly check the official BSF portal for further updates.

The post reads, "Another exam, another collapse of the system. This isn’t an accident. It’s the BJP government’s failure to protect the future of India’s youth. How many more exams will have to be cancelled before this government takes responsibility?"

A similar technical issue was reported at an examination centre in Jaipur, where the BSF ASI Stenographer and Head Constable (Ministerial) computer-based examination was also cancelled. The retest for affected candidates in Jaipur has also been scheduled for September 18, with fresh admit cards required for the rescheduled examination.
