Budget 2021: 15,000 schools to be strengthened for NEP 2020

Union Budget 2021 has allocated funds for 750 Eklavya Model Residential Schools in tribal areas.

NEW DELHI: The Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, during the Budget 2021 live speech, announced that 15,000 schools across India will be strengthened according to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Nirmala Sitharaman, in the budget speech, said: “ In school education, 15,000 schools will be strengthened as per the requirements of the National Education Policy(NEP) 2020.”

The minister also announced that 750 Eklavya Model Residential Schools will be set up in tribal areas. The Budget 2021 has also allocated funds for 100 new Sainik schools that will be established in collaboration with private schools and non-profits in a public-private partnership structure.

In the Budget 2021, the government has increased allocation for the unit cost of each Eklavya school from Rs 20 crores to Rs 38 crore. The budget allocation for schools in hilly areas has been increased to 48 crores for tribal students.
