Ahead of CA Final 2026 results, unverified social media claims alleging a breach of ICAI's examiners' portal have sparked concern.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is scheduled to announce CA Final May 2026 results today. Ahead of this, social media platform X is filled with unverified claims alleging a compromise of ICAI 's examination systems. It all began after cybersecurity-focused X account 'Dark Web Informer' posted that a threat actor known as "zowico" was claiming "full RCE and superadmin access" to the ICAI examiners' portal. The post alleged that the actor had access to more than 2,00,000 records and could access answer sheets, examiner profiles and marking schemes. The actor could allegedly modify marks. According to the post, the threat actor allegedly claimed access to answer sheets of students who appeared in the May 2026 examinations and administrative control over the portal. However, the account explicitly noted that the claim remained unverified. Notably, ICAI has not issued any public statement confirming a security breach and there is also no independent verification of the allegations.

The claims have triggered discussions among CA students, members and cybersecurity observers, mainly because it surfaced hours before the declaration of the CA Final results. Sarthak Sidhant, known for raising concerns about alleged irregularities in a CBSE tender process raised concerns over this. Tagging the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), India's nodal cybersecurity agency, Sidhant wrote, "hi dear @IndianCERT!! do you even care for us anymore".
Several chartered accountants also called for clarity from the institute. Chartered accountant Himank Singla said on X that while he had faith in ICAI's examination processes, the seriousness of the allegations needs an official clarification. "Reports are circulating about an alleged compromise of the ICAI examiners portal, with claims of unauthorized access to answer sheets, examiner profiles, marking schemes, and even the ability to alter marks," he wrote.
While some shared jokes and memes referencing the alleged ability to alter examination scores, others demanded transparent communication from ICAI to maintain confidence among students and stakeholders.
