Careers360 Faculty Research Award 2023: Meet researchers who received outstanding, commendable faculty awards for engineering, chemical engineering, maths.

NEW DELHI: Careers360 hosted the second-edition of the Faculty Research Award 2023 today. Minister of state (MoS) for communication Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan conferred awards to researchers across 27 disciplines.
Under the chemical engineering domain, Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Aniruddha Bhalchandra Pandit from Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai won the Outstanding Faculty Award 2023.
The selection of awardees was done based on comprehensive and objective approach adopted by Careers360. As per the eligibility criteria, a composite score including academic output in Scopus-indexed journals over the years, citation count, and h-index carrying 33.5%, 31.6%, 34.9% weightage respectively was considered.
Both “Outstanding Researcher Award” and “Commendable Researcher” awards carry cash prizes and citations.

JB Joshi is Emeritus Professor at Homi Bhabha National Institute and Emeritus Professor of Eminence, ICT Mumbai won the Outstanding Faculty Award. His research interests include fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, design of multiphase reactors, absorption of NOx gases, and renewable energy resources. He earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1977. He was Director, ICT Mumbai from 1999-2009. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2014, Eminent Engineer Award by Engineering Council of India in 2018, and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Engineering Sciences in 1991.
Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju is a professor at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. His research interests include synthesis, characterisation, study of properties and applications of nanomaterials. He has published over 475 research papers. He has also earned his PhD from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1976. He was President, International Union of Crystallography and is member, editorial advisory boards, Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Communi- cations and Journal of the American Chemical Society.
In 2015, he was awarded University of Calcutta’s Acharya PC Ray Medal. He is Chairman, Governing Council, Bose Institute, Kolkata.
Aniruddha Bhalchandra Pandit is the vice-chancellor of Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. His research interests include cavitation, sonochemistry, design of multiphase reactors, wastewater treatment. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from ICT in 1984. He has won the INSA Vishwakarma Medal in 2015 and the Best Teacher Award in 2012.

Shantikumar Vasudevan Nair, dean of School of Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham won the Outstanding Faculty Award in the private sector. His research is in composite materials. He has journal articles, patents, and books to his credit. He earned a PhD from Columbia University in 1983, an MSc in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1978 and a BTech, also from IIT Bombay in 1976. He was a faculty in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1985.
He heads initiatives in the application of nanotechnology in medicine and energy. He won the Government of India’s National Research Award in 2011 and the CNR Rao India Nanosciences Award in 2014.
P Senthil Kumar is a professor at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering. He won the Commendable Faculty Award 2023. His research interests include water and wastewater analysis, pollution control treatment methods, environmental nanobiotechnology and alternative fuels. He has a PhD and ME in Environmental Engineering from Anna University. He has won the AICTE National Technical Teachers Award (2022), Malaviya Memorial (Young Faculty) Award 2019, and IEI Young Engineers Award (2017-2018).

Saket Saurabh is professor of Theoretical Computer Science, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai. His research interests include parameterised complexity, exact exponential algorithms, graph algorithms and graph theory, and algorithmic game theory. He completed PhD in Theoretical Computer Science from The Institute of Mathematical Sciences in 2008 and MSc in Computer Science from Chennai Mathematical Institute, India in 2004. He also serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Bergen, Norway. He won the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 2021 and ACM India Early Career Researcher Award in 2020.
Harish Garg, associate professor of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology won the Outstanding Faculty Award in the private sector. His research interests include expert systems, decision-making problems, computational intelligence, soft computing, multi-criteria decision-making, and reliability theory. He has authored over 280 papers. He completed his PhD in applied mathematics at IIT Roorkee in 2013. He was recognised as author of a top-cited paper in “Applied Mathematics & Computations, Elsevier” (2015-2019).
Snehashish Chakraverty, professor at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, won the Commendable Faculty Award 2023. His research interests include differential equations, numerical analysis and computational methods, structural dynamics and fluid dynamics, mathematical modelling and uncertainty modelling, soft computing and machine intelligence. He has a PhD in Mathematics from IIT Roorkee in 1992). He won the Platinum Jubilee Lecture Award in 2014 at the University of Jammu.
