The CAT 2021 exam will cover three sections — verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC); quantitative ability (QA); and data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR). The exam pattern had been changed in 2020 to account for the disruptions caused by COVID-19; those changes have been retained for CAT 2021 as well. In September, the IIM CAT 2021 organising committee said in a statement that the “CAT Committee is making an attempt in reducing the number of questions across all the three sections - QA, DILR and VARC”.
The CAT forms one of the critical factors for admission to the IIMs and serves as the first round of selection. Most IIMs have a range of interviews, discussions and other processes for the final selection of candidates for their MBA programmes.
