CAT 2023: IIM Calcutta announces admission policy; exam gets 30% weightage

Use NowNEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta will conduct the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 on November 26 for admission to MBA programmes offered by IIMs and other participating institutes for the academic session 2024-26.

IIM Calcutta offers a two-year flagship MBA programme, MBAEx, and Post-Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX VLM). Recently, the institute awarded degrees to 461 students of two-year flagship MBA programme, 78 students of one-year MBAEx, and 40 PGPEX-VLM students in the 58th annual convocation .

IIM Calcutta also concluded the final placements 2023 for the MBA programme wherein students grabbed 573 offers and the consulting firms emerged as the top recruiters followed by finance, sales and marketing companies.
CAT 2023: MBA admission at IIM Calcutta
The admission policy for the MBA programme this year is the same as last year. The minimum academic eligibility for MBA admission at IIM Calcutta is as follows:
- A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50 percent marks or equivalent CGPA , 45% for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories, from a recognized university.
- For candidates who have completed an integrated masters or dual degree directly after their Class 12, the percentage of marks obtained as per the institute which is considered as equivalent to the bachelor’s degree will be considered.
- Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification exam and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.
Candidates who graduated in the years 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023, for whom the university did not conduct the exams or did not award marks or CGPA but awarded only pass or pass marks or promotion in one or more years or semesters of bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, can also apply.

The institute informed that those candidates whose results are pending at the time of CAT 2023 registration will have to produce a marksheet by December 31, 2024.
CAT Exam 2023: IIM Calcutta selection process
There are three stages of selection of candidates for admission to MBA programmes at the institute.
Stage 1: Minimum CAT percentile cut-offs to be considered
“In Stage I, candidates meeting the minimum requirements on both section-wise and overall percentiles in CAT 2023 as given in the table will be shortlisted for consideration in Stage II, subject to securing non-negative raw scores in all sections of CAT 2023,” said IIM Calcutta.
Stage 2: Shortlisting for PI and WAT
Candidates will be shortlisted for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) based on CAT 2023 scores and other parameters.

Stage 3: Final selection
The final category-wise merit list will be prepared on the basis of candidate’s performance in CAT 2023, PI, and WAT along with other parameters.
