Check NowFor the first time, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released data for Class 10 supplementary and improvement examinations, revealing that 6,68,854 regular candidates have registered across the compartment and improvement categories combined. 85,285 have signed up for compartment, 5,25,655 for improvement, and 57,914 for both compartment and improvement exams under the two-phase exam scheduled between May 15 and 21.

CBSE introduced two board exams from 2026, and under the new system, students who pass the first examination will be eligible to improve their scores in up to three subjects, including Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages. CBSE also opened the process for submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) and examination fee in three phases.

Students who failed in the first board exam will get another chance through the compartment exam. Those who are not happy with their marks can also take improvement exams. In both cases, CBSE will consider the best score from the two exams and mention it in the final mark sheet-cum-certificate.
85,285 students have registered for compartment exams, 57,914 have applied for a combination of both compartment and improvement. 2,79,227 students are appearing for two subjects, 1,97,119 students will appear for three, and 1,92,508 will appear to improve marks in one subject. 8,323 private students will utilize their third chance to clear or improve their scores, while 1,442 candidates will appear for their first chance.

Science most-opted for re-appearing
Science is the most opted subject for re-appearing, selected by 4,74,491 students. It is followed by Mathematics (Standard) with 3,68,843 students, Mathematics (Basic) with 1,78,878 students, Social Science with 1,54,619 students, and English Language & Literature with 98,536 students. Among other subjects, Hindi Course-A was selected by 29,860 students and Hindi Course-B by 23,476 students. English (Communicative) was selected by 5,413 students.
Regional and foreign languages also saw varied participation, including Odia (3,295), Malayalam (2,462), Telugu (1,875), Tamil (1,836), Kannada (1,527), Sanskrit (1,500), Sanskrit (Communicative) (1,469), Telugu–Telangana (1,125), Punjabi (1,018), French (809), Bengali (649), Marathi (320), Nepali (242), Assamese (224), Urdu Course-B (147), Arabic (105), German (86), Urdu Course-A (62), Gujarati (41), Tibetan (39), and Manipuri (38).
Very few students opted for subjects such as Kokborok (14), Japanese (9), Spanish (9), Bhoti (4), Lepcha (4), Limboo (3), Hindustani Music (Vocal) (3), Mizo (3), Painting (3), Rai (2), Bodo (1), Bhutia (1), Home Science (1), Information Technology (1), Introduction to Tourism (1), Artificial Intelligence (1), and Hindustani Music (Melodic Instruments) (1).
