CBSE conducts surprise inspections at 27 schools in Rajasthan, Delhi to curb menace of dummy schools

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted a series of surprise inspections across 27 schools in Rajasthan and the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. As per the official press release, these inspections, conducted earlier today, were part of CBSE's efforts to ensure strict adherence to the Board's norms and Bye-Laws by the affiliated schools, and to curb the menace of dummy schools.

As per the official press release, the inspections were meticulously planned and executed by 27 teams, each consisting of a CBSE officer and a principal from a CBSE-affiliated school. The teams visited the selected schools simultaneously, ensuring the element of surprise was maintained.

Surprise inspections by CBSE

The inspections were aimed at gathering information about the daily operations and compliance levels of the CBSE affiliated schools. By conducting these inspections without prior notice, CBSE aimed to obtain a true reflection of the schools' adherence to the Board's guidelines.

Ongoing monitoring and future inspections

In a statement, CBSE emphasized that the Board plans to continue conducting such surprise inspections to ensure that schools consistently meet the quality and standards expected by CBSE. According to the official press release, the findings from these inspections will be thoroughly reviewed, and appropriate actions will be taken against schools in case of non-compliance.

The official press release read, “CBSE is dedicated to maintaining high standards in education and expects all affiliated schools to adhere strictly to its guidelines. The findings from these inspections will be reviewed comprehensively, and appropriate actions would be taken in cases of non-compliance.”

CBSE disaffiliates 20 schools for enrolling dummy, ineligible students

In March 2024, the CBSE disaffiliated 20 schools for admitting dummy students and ineligible candidates. The affected schools include five in Delhi, three in Uttar Pradesh, two each in Kerala, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Dehradun, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, schools in Delhi, Punjab, and Assam had their affiliations downgraded.

The PTI quoted CBSE secretary, Himashu Gupta saying, "Pursuant to the surprise inspection conducted in CBSE schools across the country to check whether the schools are running as per the provisions and norms contained in affiliation and examination bye-laws, it was found that some schools were committing various malpractices of presenting dummy students, ineligible candidates and not maintained records properly."
