NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to issue show-cause notices and take legal action against 27 schools which were found to be violating the board rules during surprise inspections. The board conducted inspections in 27 affiliated schools across Rajasthan and Delhi to examine compliance with the affiliation bye-laws and curb the menace of dummy schools.

“CBSE has taken cognizance of these serious violations and is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to the defaulting schools. Legal action is also being contemplated against those found guilty of non-compliance,” the board said in an official statement.

During the surprise inspections which revealed “massive irregularities”, the majority of the schools were found to have violated the board's affiliation bye-laws by enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records, thus creating "dummy" enrolments, the board informed. Additionally, schools were found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the board.

Reiterating its stand on the compliance of rules and guidelines, the board stated, “CBSE is committed to upholding educational standards and will persist in enforcing stringent measures against any violations of its regulations.”

The inspections were conducted by 27 teams, each comprising a CBSE officer and principal from an affiliated school. While examining the schools, the inspectors aimed to gather information about the day-to-day functioning of schools and compliance level.
