CTET may soon include the Maithili language as an option in the exam. The development came after a proposal related to Maithili was passed during a meeting of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). 

Currently, CTET is conducted in 20 different languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Bangla, Garo, Gujarati, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, and Urdu.

Candidates who clear Paper 1 are eligible to teach classes 1 to 5, while those who pass Paper 2 can teach classes 6 to 8. The CTET certificate serves as the minimum qualification required for securing a teaching position. The CTET certificate has a lifetime validity, whereas earlier it was valid for only 7 years.

CBSE conducted the CTET 2026 paper 2 re-exam on Feb 7 at Lakshya Academy and St. John’s Academy International in Bihar’s Vaishali district, after the exam was cancelled due to administrative reasons.

CBSE has already published the CBSE CTET paper 1 and 2 provisional answer keys 2026. The CBSE CTET answer key 2026 objection window was open from March 12 to 15 for both paper 1 and 2. 

CTET result 2026 will be prepared based on the final answer key.

According to the CTET 2026 qualifying criteria, candidates in the general category need to obtain a minimum of 60%, whereas those belonging to reserved categories are required to score at least 55% to qualify.
