NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to conduct board exams only once from the next academic year, 2022-23 session. As the Covid-19 pandemic cases are deepening, CBSE Class 10, 12 exam 2022-23 is expected to be held once from next year, sources in the Ministry Of Education told Careers360. "CBSE conducted the 10th, 12th exams in two terms due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. As the Covid-19 case is dropping, the single-mode exam can be restored," said the sources.

In July 2021, CBSE introduced a special scheme for conducting board exams for the academic year 2021-22. For the 2021-22 session, the board had decided to conduct Classes 10, 12 board exams in two terms with a 50% syllabus in each term. The decision came in view of the pandemic situation.

CBSE Class 10, 12 Term 1 exams were held between November-December 2021 while Term 2 exams are scheduled to be held between April-May 2022. Term-1 question paper had multiple-choice questions (MCQ) whereas, term 2 question paper will have different formats such as case-based or situation based, open-ended-short answer or long answer type.

In 2020-21 session, CBSE was unable to conduct 10th and 12th exams due to COVID-19. The board had to cancel board exams for both classes during the second wave. It was also decided that CBSE will take steps to compile the results of class 12 students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner. Thus, in 2021, the board decided to conduct two terms to assess the performance of students in a better way.
