The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has given Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh its approval to establish a school of pharmacy and offer 60 seats for a BPharma programme.

The BPharma curriculum has been designed for a combination of theoretical and practical education. It involves AI-powered tools and laboratories for subjects like pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, and toxicology.

The BPharma course at Chandigarh University UP aims to make students “future-ready professionals” who will have a vast array of career opportunities like clinical research, intellectual property management, regulatory affairs, quality control, and medical writing.

According to the official press statement, the pharmaceutical industry is poised to grow at a rate of 4.7% from 2024 to 2029, reaching a market size of USD 1,454 billion – making it an attractive sector for future job-seekers. Keeping this in mind, Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh has established their school of pharmacy, to create “competent and industry-ready healthcare professionals”, the statement said.

The university also plans to provide training in good manufacturing practices (GMP), good laboratory practices (GLP), and good clinical practices (GCP).

The school of pharmacy at Chandigarh University is led by Amit Verma with more than 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry research. According to the official statement, “... Verma has made notable contributions towards international collaborations, drug development plans, regulatory documentation, and innovation in pharmaceutical sciences”.

“He has collaborated with India's and the world's premier institutions and pharmaceutical industries, providing his services in drug discovery, formulation science, regulatory affairs, clinical research and academic leadership,” the statement added.
