CLAT 2025 SC Judgement: Supreme Court suggests transferring case to Punjab, Haryana High Court

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court was hearing the CLAT 2025 Case transfer plea today, January 15. In today's CLAT 2025 SC hearing, the Supreme Court has expressed its inclination to transfer the case to Punjab and Haryana High Court. At present, the CLAT 2025 result revision cases are pending in the High Courts of Delhi, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

The Consortium of NLUs urged the Supreme Court to transfer all petitions related to CLAT 2025, which were filed in various High Courts. CNLU requested that the cases be consolidated either in the Supreme Court or in one specific High Court. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar heard the matter regarding the transfer of CLAT 2025 cases today.

Disposal rate at Punjab, Haryana HC is very good: CJI Khanna

According to a Live Law report, CJI Sanjiv Khanna highlighted that the first CLAT 2025 petition was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. CJI Khanna also mentioned that the disposal rate at Punjab and Haryana HC is very good. Some lawyers representing students requested that the matter be assigned to the Delhi High Court, citing that earlier order regarding CLAT 2025 answer key errors was passed in the same court.

CLAT 2025 Hearing: Consolidation of petitions in one High Court

The Supreme Court has dictated an order stating that all CLAT 2025 related petitions should be consolidated in a single High Court for 'expeditious' resolution. Notices will be issued to the counsels representing petitioners in various High Courts, with a returnable date in the week beginning February 3, 2025.

The Live Law quoted the bench order, "The writ petitions pending in different courts should be dealt with one High Court, as it would be expeditious. Issue notice returnable in the week commencing 3rd February 2025. Notices will be served to the counsels appearing for the petitioners before different HCs. The bench is of the view that the matters can be transferred to P&H HC"

CLAT 2025 Court Case: Background and previous orders

The CLAT 2025 results are under judicial review due to errors in the final answer key. On December 20, 2024, the Delhi High Court directed the Consortium NLUs to revise the CLAT 2025 results.

The single judge said the errors were “demonstrably clear” and “shutting a blind eye to them” would amount to injustice. “The errors in question Nos.14 and 100 are demonstrably clear and shutting a blind eye to the same would be injustice to the petitioner albeit this Court is conscious of the fact that it may impact the result of other candidates,” the court said, as per Bar and Bench.

The Delhi High Court identified two errors in set A of the question paper and asked for CLAT 2025 result revision accordingly. The errors are reported to be in questions 14 and 100. In Set A, the answer to question number 14 was changed to option C, and question number 100 was withdrawn with corresponding changes in other sets.
