CNLU Patna opens LLM degree course; entrance test on August 12

NEW DELHI, JULY 23: Chanakya National Law University Patna (CNLU) will offer post-graduate programme in law from the current academic year. The admissions to the newly introduced LLM programme will be offered through an entrance examination conducted by the varsity on August 12.

It has been 13 years now since its inception that CNLU Patna is running only the five-year integrated under-graduate law programme.  The admission to the UG programme is done through CLAT. The LLM programme is aimed at widening the academic scope of the law programmes run by the varsity.

Initially, the varsity will offer 30 seats in the postgraduate law programme which will be of one-year duration and follow a semester system.

The application process for the LLM admissions has already begun and applications will close for the same on August 6, 2018.

The varsity will issue the admit cards to LLM eligible applicants on August 9 and the entrance examination will be held on August 12, 2018. The duration of the test will be two and a half hours, beginning at 2:00 pm. The exam center will be in Patna only.

Who are eligible?

The candidates who wish to apply for LLM programme in CNLU Patna need to have an LLB degree with 55 per cent marks in aggregate of the subjects (50 % for SC/ST category candidates).

Those who are appearing in the final year examination of their LLB degree programme can also apply for the CNLU Patna LLM prgramme. However, the final admissions will be subject to the submission of LLB passing degree at the time of admission.

The entrance examination

The offline entrance test paper will carry as many as 100 multiple-choice objective-type questions of one mark each and five short-answer type questions of 10 marks each. Thus, the total marks for the test paper will be 150.

The candidates will have to attempt the objective-type questions in 90 minutes and short-answer type questions in 60 minutes, in separate time slots. The two slots will not have any time lag.

The test questions will be based on the LLB programme related topics including Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, Environmental Law, Human Rights, Corporate Law and Intellectual Property Law.

The selection process

After the entrance examination, CNLU Patna will prepare a merit list of the candidates who qualify the exam. These shortlisted candidates will then have to attend interview, after which a final merit list will be prepared for CNLU LLM admissions.

CNLU Patna will be the third law varsity in Bihar to offer an LLM porgramme after Patna University and Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University.
