Coronavirus: Delhi Govt to provide packed mid-day meal at doorstep

NEW DELHI:On March 23, in the wake of preventive lockdown in the country to control the coronavirus spread, Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s chief minister, announced that children who attended government schools and had mid-day meals will get their packed mid-day meals at their homes. He also added that the government will also give a pension of Rs 4,000 to 5,000 to the elderly, widows and disabled people who cannot make a living.
In a video, Kejriwal said that the government wants to avoid mass gatherings of people to contain COVID-19, a disease that spreads through physical contact. The government has, thus, decided to send packets of food to individual houses. The minister said that he has been receiving phone calls from people who want to support and help the government in the time of such a health crisis.

The Minister said in the video that this is the time when the whole world is reeling under the effect of the coronavirus pandemic and people need to show humanity and help each other. He requests people to not let people die of starvation on their watch. He said “If you are privileged and God has been kind and gifted you with adequate money and resources, then please think that it was for this day to help other needy and underprivileged people. Please take care of people you know and make sure no one dies of hunger.”

Delhi has a total of 31 confirmed cases with one death. Currently, India has 492 “active” COVID-19 cases and nine deaths
