NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notice warning of strict action against rumourmongers circulating fake news on various social media platforms to mislead students and parents.

The board said that it has noticed that fake news in the form of lookalike circulars and press releases about the CBSE board exams, exam dates, evaluation and pass criteria are being circulated on various social media groups.

This is creating confusion and anxiety.

The board has warned that it has dealt with such individuals in the past by filing FIRs with the police and they have been booked under the IT Act.

Official Handles

Further, the board has advised the public and media to not believe such rumours and check official announcements on the CBSE official handles.

Last week CBSE, the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad or UP Board, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) and Mumbai University all had to debunk the fake notices and press releases about their examinations and evaluation processes. These bodies and state boards have postponed the board examinations due to the COVID-19 threat.

The CBSE has already notified that board examinations will be conducted for Class 10 and Class 12 only for main 29 subjects. Rest, all the students from Class 1 to 9 and Class 11 will be promoted to the next class on the basis of internal school-based assessments.
