NEW DELHI: Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, several fake news or notices have been circulating online and on messaging applications stating that the biggest entrance examinations - NEET and JEE will be held in July 2020. These are all fake. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is for admission to medical colleges and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), for engineering.
Neither the National Testing Agency (NTA) nor the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has issued any such notice. According to the authorities, considering the current circumstances, setting a date for NEET or JEE is difficult. In fact, on April 14, NTA extended the correction window facility for both NEET and JEE till May 3, 2020.
No confirmed date
A senior official has told The Times of India that the exam dates for NEET and JEE will only be announced after lockdown is lifted across the country. NTA will not declare any date without an official announcement.
However, the same story says that there is a possibility that the exams are conducted in June as the NTA must also consider the pending Class 10 and 12 board exams.
FIR for spreading rumours
On April 14, NTA issued a notice confirming that the circulating notices announcing that the exams will be held in July are fake. In the official notice, the authority said that an FIR will be lodged against those circulating fake rumors under relevant provisions of the IT Act and Indian Penal Code.
A copy of the official notice issued by NTA has been attached below.
