NEW DELHI: As the graph of Omicron, COVID-19 cases in India rises upwards, several state governments have announced closure of schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions on an immediate basis while issuing new COVID-19 curbs including night curfew. Meanwhile, 1 crore teens have received covid vaccine by Wednesday, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.

Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka, Goa, Haryana, Telangana are among states that have decided to shut schools due to rising cases of Covid-19 and Omicron in the country. However, several states have decided to keep schools opened for Classes 10, 12 due to upcoming board exams.

States have also begun vaccination campaigns in schools for the ease of children.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-chancellor, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal along with others have tested COVID-19 positive. Several higher education institutions have also reported Covid cases such as Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamipur among others.

When asked whether the Delhi government was planning for a lockdown in the city, Union health minister Satyendar Jain said that the Delhi government has implemented all the necessary precautionary measures such as night curfew and weekend curfew, and there is no need for a lockdown right now.

Thirty-nine students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, a district official said. With this, 81 NIT Hamirpur students have been found infected with the coronavirus in the last two days. On Wednesday, 42 students of the institute were found COVID-19 positive. COVID-19 Updates: IIEST Shibpur ask students to leave campus as cases rise

The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, West Bengal asked students to leave the campus as staying in hostels may give rise to Covid cases in the campus, reported the Telegraph India.  

In case of any student not being able to return home, the student has to submit a consent letter from the parent. Students staying on the campus will not be permitted to go outside the campus (except for medical purposes) without the permission of the chief warden.

COVID cases in India: 42 NIT Hamirpur students test positive for COVID-19

Forty-two students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, a district official said.
