COVID-19 cases in India: Telangana government has ordered closure of all educational institutions due to rising cases.

NEW DELHI: The Telangana government has decided to close schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the state till January 30 amid rising COVID-19 cases, the CMO announced on social media.

“In view of the increasing number of corona cases in the country and the state, the government has decided to extend the holidays till January 30 to all types of educational institutions in the state as per the directions of the Chief Minister. Corona etc. will be discussed in the Cabinet,” Telangana Chief Minister’s Office tweeted.

On January 4, in view of rising Covid cases, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao declared holidays at all educational institutions in the state from January 8 to 16. At a meeting with ministers and officials on the rising COVID-19 cases in Telangana, Rao said beds, oxygen-supported beds, medicines and testing kits be procured as required, according to an official release.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government also decided to close schools till January 31 as it extended the Covid restrictions in the state to the end of the month. Administration of all educational institutions is permitted to function with half of the staff capacity.
