COVID Update: HRD Ministry requests IITs, NITs to defer annual fee hike

NEW DELHI:Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has said that undergraduate and postgraduate level examinations will conducted from July 1 as per the examination schedule announced by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the results will be declared by July 31.

He also said that in one or two days, the schedule for the pending Central Board of Secondary Education, or CBSE, examinations of Classes 10 and 12 will be announced.

HRD Minister today interacted with students across India through social media platforms Twitter and Facebook.

While answering a questions raised by a National Institute of Technology student on annual fee hike, HRD Minister said that the Ministry has asked all the IITs and NITs to not increase the annual fee. “I have had discussion with the IIT Council Chairman on this issue and have conveyed the concern of children. We are request to not increase the fee for this academic session and I am hopeful that they would listen to us,” said Pokhriyal.

Earlier the Union Minister announced that he would be conducting webinar with students on May 5 at 12 PM. The Ministry invited students to submit their queries and various concerns around coronavirus lockdown using #EducationMinisterGoesLive on the social media platforms.

The recent webinar was the second webinar conducted by the HRD Minister. During his first webinar held on April 27 with parents and students, he discussed their various regarding the academic future, mental health, and other issues faced by students.

Pokhriyal announced on twitter about addressing concerns among students related to examinations delay, closure of schools and colleges and their future.
