This year, the NTA conducted the CUET UG exam for 37 subjects, including 13 Indian languages, 23 domain-specific subjects, and one General Aptitude Test. The number of subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37 this year, and the number of subject choices was also reduced from 6 to 5.
Of the five, it was mandatory to choose a language and the General Aptitude Test. Candidates were, however, allowed to opt for subjects regardless of the ones studied in Class 12.
As per last year’s pattern, the NTA conducted 63 subjects – 33 languages, 29 domain-specific subjects, and one General Aptitude Test – in both pen-and-paper and computer-based modes. Two new subjects, Fashion Studies and Tourism, were also added. Moreover, candidates were allowed to opt for six subjects.
This year, 13.9 lakh candidates have registered for the exam.
A total of 13,47,820 (13.4 lakh) unique candidates registered for CUET last year, of whom 11,13,610 (11.1 lakh) appeared for the exam. The total number of test-takers across all subject combinations was 57,71,668, of which 46,21,670 appeared.
Most candidates — a total of 8,22,518 (8.22 lakh) — opted for the English paper, followed by 7,09,066 (7.09 lakh) who appeared in the General Test. STEM subjects – Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics – also saw over 5 lakh participants each.
Language and domain-specific subjects carry a maximum of 200 marks, whereas the General Aptitude Test has a maximum of 300 marks.
Despite recording the highest registrations (3.89 lakh applicants) in mathematics, only 5 candidates managed to score 200 marks. More than 5.61 lakh candidates appeared for the chemistry paper, of whom only 398 scored 200. A total of 24 candidates obtained 200 marks in computer science.
