NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence has approved setting up of 23 New Sainik schools in partnership with Sainik School society. The defence minister Rajnath Singh gave the approval to new schools under the initiative of the government to establish 100 Sainik schools starting with Class 6.

The approval has been given after evaluating the applications for opening these schools and the number of schools has reached to 42 besides 33 existing ones.

“The objectives behind Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools is to provide quality education to the students in tune with National Education Policy and give them better career opportunities, including joining the Armed Forces,” said an official statement.

A total of 18 New Sainik Schools will be admitting students this year through the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) 2023. These newly approved Sainik Schools will offer admission to only Class 6 for the academic year 2023-24.

The ministry of defence had recently said that the Sainik School Society (SSS) is in the process of developing an automated system for the conduct of e-Counselling to ensure transparency in the admission process. It will also provide access for real-time monitoring of the entire process, and necessary action, as required at each stage, as per the official statement.

Last year, the defence ministry approved 21 new schools in the partnership mode. A total of 194 schools had applied to get affiliated to the Sainik School Society. The Union Cabinet had in October last year approved a proposal of setting up 100 affiliated Sainik Schools.
