Delhi Govt asks private schools to introduce happiness curriculum
Delhi Government also said that it will provide training to private school teachers on happiness curriculum if the school management wishes so.
NEW DELHI: Delhi Government has asked all private schools in Delhi to introduce the happiness curriculum in their syllabus. The Delhi Government also said that the government will provide training to private school teachers on happiness curriculum if the school management requests so.
The Delhi directorate of education said that the training will be provided through the State Council of Educational Research and Training.
The Delhi directorate of education, in a circular, said: “All the management of private recognized schools are advised to take appropriate action to introduce the happiness curriculum, further, if requested by the private schools, training will also be arranged for their teachers regarding happiness curriculum through SCERT.”
The directorate, in the circular, said that the instruction is based on the Delhi High Court direction to the Union Government to consider a writ petition, which it dismissed, on introducing mindfulness classes in all schools, as a presentation.
A committee set up by the education ministry had recommended “breathing exercises, mindfulness, meditation and yoga asanas may be developed to share with schools”.
The directorate of education said that the happiness curriculum is being implemented in Delhi Government schools from 2018.
“It is also brought to the notice of the management of private recognised schools in GNCT of Delhi that the happiness curriculum is being implemented in all government schools of Delhi from 2018 and mindfulness is an integral part of the same,” the directorate said in the circular.
“The mindfulness sessions have already been started among all students of schools of Government of NCT Delhi and now it needs to be implemented in the private recognized schools of Delhi,” it said.
