NEW DELHI: The AAP government has decided to name Delhi’s sainik school as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced today, March 22 during a press conference.

“Delhi's Sainik School will be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh,” Kejriwal tweeted.

On December 20, 2021, the cabinet had approved the establishment of a special army school in Delhi which will provide training to students to get admitted in the armed forces such as National Defense Academy (NDA), Navy, Air Force etc., Kejriwal said.

The army school will be completely free for students and will be a residential school where students will have to live in hostels. There will be separate hostels for male and female students, Kejriwal said.

The campus of the new sainik school is being set up at Jharoda Kalan on a 14 acre land with state-of-the-art and modern facilities, the chief minister added.

In the sainik school, students will be taught officer-like qualities just like the training given to youth in the armed forces. Students will be prepared for NDA, naval academy etc. The faculty of the school will include retired army and naval offciers, he said.

Any student residing in Delhi will be eligible to take admission in Sainik school. The students will get admission in Class 9 and 11. There are 100 seats each in Classes 9 and 11, he said.

Last year, the government launched four types of Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSEs) and this school will be the fifth of its kind. The school will be affiliated to Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE).
