Delhi school renamed after Tokyo Olympics medallist Ravi Dahiya: Manish Sisodia
School renamed after the Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medallist Ravi Dahiya. Delhi Government school now called “Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya”.
NEW DELHI: The Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medallist in wrestling Ravi Dahiya was honoured at his old school, Government Boys' Senior Secondary School, Adarsh Nagar. The government has decided to rename his old school to “Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya”, Delhi's deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisodia announced on social media.
According to the post it was an emotional moment for the teachers of Ravi Dahiya who were present during the ceremony.
Dahiya is only the second Indian wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. Ravi Dahiya in the final round of the men's freestyle 57kg title clash lost 4-7 to the reigning world champion Zavur Uguev.
Sisodia said on Twitter: “Olympic silver medallist Ravi Dahiya was honoured at his school, Government Bal Vidyalaya, Adarsh Nagar, today. It was an emotional moment for the teachers of Ravi Dahiya, who returned to his school. The government has decided that the name of this government school in Delhi will now be Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya.”

The Tokyo Olympics contingent has been constantly in the company of politicians since returning to India.
All the winners of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 were given special invitations to attend the Independence Day 2021 by prime minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi has also asked the Indian athletes from the Tokyo Olympics to visit 75 schools to spread awareness against malnutrition and also play a sport with schoolchildren.
Also this was done observing that India will celebrate the 75th Independence Day next year and this will be a 75 week-long celebration of our Independence.
