DU plans to establish medical college; VC says 'working on infrastructure, hostel facility'

NEW DELHI: Delhi University (DU) is planning to establish a full-fledged medical college, university vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh said during a press conference. Currently, Patel Chest Institute offers specialised medical courses, the VC said.

The university is presently working on the infrastructure and hostel facilities for more than 1,000 students and the construction of the hostels will begin soon. “We are working on building infrastructure and eventually new courses will also be added. We have to wait for at least a year. We are planning to add a full-scale medical College. Currently, Patel chest institute offers specialised medical courses,” Singh said.

While talking about the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), Singh said that over 2,000 teachers have been appointed in the past 10 months and the university needs to recruit 1,500 more teachers.

Recently, DU announced to introduce three new BTech programmes from the upcoming academic session and the admissions will be done through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023. The Faculty of Technology will offer BTech Computer Science and Engineering, BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering, and BTech Electrical Engineering and each course will have 120 seats.

Meanwhile, DU has launched the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal for DU UG admissions 2023 and DU PG admissions 2023. DU CSAS 2023 registration has commenced on the official website – ugadmission.uod.ac.in. The university is offering 71,000 seats for 78 undergraduate programmes.
