The event aimed at spreading awareness about the “intertwined nature of queer liberation movement and the liberation of Palestine in opposition to the zionist narratives going around the global media about how the both are not compatible”.
The art exhibition showcased different types of art works submitted by students from all over Delhi. During the event, students from different universities and queer collectives across Delhi joined the open mic emphasizing on the need for solidarity for the Palestinian struggle for liberation. Students also emphasized the need for a “collective struggle for queer movements to politicise the spaces that otherwise are rendered very exclusive and elitist.”
In an official statement, the students’ group said that it is extremely important for the queer community of the world to unite in support of Palestine and stand against Israel.
“The queer liberation movement is undeniably intertwined with anti-imperialist and anti-colonial struggles. Our pride can only come through true liberation for all, for us and for all the peoples fighting worldwide. Queer liberation is part of Palestinian liberation movement. It does not exist outside of it,” DUQC said.
The event also saw involvement of the police who tried to cancel the programme. However, the event was successfully conducted, the queer body said.
“DUQC will continue being loud about our politics and will not be scared into mere performative politics,” the DU queer collective further stated.
