NEET PG Counselling 2024: MCC to issue round 1 schedule soon at mcc.nic.in; admission process

The petitioners have demanded that the National Board of Examinations (NBE) disclose both raw as well as the final NEET PG 2024 normalized scores. The petitioners want to review their performance and understand the normalization method applied for NEET PG 2024 results.  

The MCC NEET PG 2024 counselling will tentatively consist of round 1, round 2, mop-up round, and AIQ stray vacancy round.

The NEET PG 2025 exam is expected to be held in June 2025. The exact NEET PG 2024 exam date is yet to be announced by the officials. 

In India, NEET PG is the primary gateway for admission to most postgraduate medical courses such as MD, MS, and DNB programs. However, there are a few alternatives depending on the type of medical field or institution.

1. INI CET: The Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI CET) offers admission to PG programs in prestigious institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER, and NIMHANS.

2. NEET MDS: For those pursuing dentistry, the NEET MDS exam is required for admission to the Master of Dental Surgery programs.

3. AIAPGET: This exam is for postgraduate courses in Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha, and Unani under the AYUSH system.

With the discontinuation of the DNB-CET, admissions to post-MBBS DNB broad specialty courses are now determined by a candidate's performance in the NEET PG exam.

The Department of Medical Education and Research, Haryana has commenced NEET PG 2024 counselling registration today, October 18. Candidates can fill the Haryana NEET PG 2024 counselling form by visiting the official website, hry.online-counselling.co.in.  

Aspirants have questioned the decision by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to incorporate sudden changes just three days before the NEET PG 2024 exam, lack of clarity in the marking process, and many more.

After the MCC NEET PG 2024 seat allotment, candidates have the following options:

Option 1: Automatic seat cancellation If a candidate does not report to the allocated institute within the specified timeframe in Round 1 of NEET PG counselling 2024, their seat will be automatically canceled, known as a 'free exit.'

Option 2: Seat acceptance Candidates satisfied with their Round 1 allotment must report to the designated college within the given period to confirm their seat.

Option 3: Upgradation option Candidates who are not satisfied with their current allotment can apply for a seat upgrade in Round 2. If no upgrade is granted, their original seat remains secured.

The NEET PG 2024 round 1 counselling registration process began on September 20. The date and time of the release of the NEET PG schedule have not been announced yet by MCC.

The list of required documents for NEET PG 2024 counselling is as follows.

The NEET PG 2024 exam took place on August 11 in two shifts. The first shift was conducted from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, while the second shift ran from 3:30 pm to 7 pm.

Candidates belonging to the general category are required to pay Rs 1,000 for admission to the All India Quota (AIQ) or a Central University, whereas candidates from the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories must pay Rs 500. For admission to a deemed university, candidates are required to deposit Rs 5,000.

The Supreme Court will hear a case related to NEET PG 2024 on October 25. This hearing aims to address concerns regarding the admission process and counselling procedures for postgraduate medical courses.

MCC announced that if a candidate participates in the Stray Round or the Special Stray Vacancy Round in NEET PG Counselling 2023 and is allocated a seat but fails to report to the assigned college, that candidate will be barred from participating in NEET PG Counselling 2024.

Candidates will have the following options after the MCC NEET PG 2024 seat allotment:

Only candidates who meet the minimum cut-off percentile will be required to register for NEET PG counselling. The examination authority will conduct two rounds of counselling for NEET PG 2024.

Candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats based on their rank in the NEET PG conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) will be eligible for the 50% All India Quota seats in Central Universities.

The passing marks, also known as the qualifying cut-off, for NEET PG 2024 are determined by the candidate's category. Generally, the cut-off is represented by the 50th or 40th percentile, depending on the category. The qualifying percentiles are as follows:

• General/Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Category: 50th percentile
• Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), including Persons with Disabilities (PwD) of SC, ST, and OBC: 40th percentile
• Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in the General/EWS category: 45th percentile

The specific score cut-offs can vary each year, influenced by the exam's difficulty and the number of candidates.

NEET PG 2024 is administered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The examination is conducted under the supervision of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), which is part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India.

The reservation policy for NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate) counselling 2024 will be as follows: Scheduled Castes (SC) will receive 15% of the seats, Scheduled Tribes (ST) will have 7.5%, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) as per the Central OBC list will be allotted 27%, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will be given 10%, and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) will be allocated 5%.

According to a written response from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in Parliament, the number of NEET PG seats has risen from 31,185 in 2014 to 70,645 at present. Over the last five years, postgraduate seats have grown from 39,583 in the 2018-19 academic year to 64,059 in 2022-23, as stated by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in his reply.

NEET PG 2024 counselling is expected to be conducted in four phases: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and the AIQ Stray Vacancy Round.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) published the merit list for the NEET PG 2024 for 50% All India quota seats on September 5.

Several medical student associations and resident doctors' groups have shared a tentative NEET PG 2024 counselling schedule on social media. However, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website continues to state, “PG counselling schedule 2024 will be available soon.”

Registration for the first round of NEET PG 2024 counselling began on September 20, 2024. Candidates who have qualified for the exam can register through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) official website, mcc.nic.in.

As of now, the National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 counselling schedule has not yet been issued. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the schedule soon on its official website, mcc.nic.in.
