Every year, nearly 10% of eligible students miss out on admission opportunities at DU due to this procedural bottleneck, the teachers group said. A large number of students, particularly from rural and underprivileged areas are denied admission due to non-submission of the latest OBC certificate.
While these students belong to the OBC category and are otherwise eligible, they often face administrative delays in procuring updated OBC (NCL) certificates from local authorities, which eventually leads to their disqualification from the admission process, the teachers said.
“This situation not only undermines the constitutional principles of social justice and inclusion but also negatively impacts the academic futures of many deserving candidates,” the joint statement read.
Extending the last date to submit the OBC-NCL certificate “will ensure fair and equitable access to education for OBC students, minimize dropout or rejection rates due to procedural delays, and align with the spirit of inclusive higher education,” DUTA members said.
The letter was written by Anand Prakash, member of DUTA; Ashok Kumar, former member of DUTA and Commission for OBC, Government of NCT of Delhi; Ram Kishore Yadav, member Academic Council; and Sarvendra Kumar, former member Commission for OBC, Govt of Delhi-NCT.
The Delhi University UG admission 2025 process through CUET UG 2025 scores is underway. A total of 71,624 UG seats will be filled through the DU CSAS CUET counselling. Candidates who have a valid score in CUET UG results 2025 and have qualified Class 12 with the minimum aggregate marks will be eligible for admission at DU.
