Former Delhi mayor from BJP Rajni Abbi appointed Delhi University proctor

NEW DELHI: Rajni Abbi, former Delhi mayor from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today appointed as Delhi University proctor. The DU Executive Council (EC), the university’s highest decision making body, convened a meeting today to announce a new team.

The DU Executive Council meeting was held after the senior Delhi University officials, including pro-vice-chancellor PC Joshi,Proctor Neeta Sehgal and Dean of Students Welfare Rajeev Gupta tendered their resignations on Thursday.
59-year-old, Rajni Abbi did her graduation in English literature from Miranda House College. Later she pursued her legal education from the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, and was a gold medalist both in LLB and LLM. She did her PhD in Law from DU and also was a professor at the University of Delhi.
"These posts are co-terminus, they last till the tenure of the vice-chancellor who made those appointments. With Professor Yogesh Singh joining as the vice-chancellor on October 8, they were supposed to resign but were asked to continue till the new appointments were made," said an official, requesting anonymity, PTI reported.
Yogesh Singh took charge as the 23rd Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University on October 8, 2021. Singh succeeds Yogesh Tyagi, who was suspended last October over allegations of irregularities and dereliction of duty.
