Delhi University student dies by suicide; was suffering from depression

A 19-year-old Delhi University student was found dead at a mall in Rajouri Garden. The student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from an upper floor of a mall near Rajouri Garden Pink Line Metro station on August 9. During the preliminary inquiry, Police was informed that the deceased had been suffering from depression following the death of her mother in 2021. In the hand-written suicide note, the woman stated that she was ending her life of her own volition, police said.

A head constable on routine patrolling duty noticed the woman's body lying near the Mall of Rajouri, following which the information was conveyed to Rajouri Garden police station, the Police told PTI. Soon after being informed, a police team went to the spot to inspect the scene and circumstances surrounding the death. Crime team and forensic science laboratory personnel were also present on the location.

No evidence suggesting foul play was found during the inspection of the scene, an officer said. The deceased was a third-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) student at Aryabhatta College in Delhi.

Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated and further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
