NEW DELHI: The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has sought the vice chancellor’s intervention, saying the ad-hoc and guest teachers’ salaries are being delayed during the COVID-19 lockdown.

In a letter to the vice chancellor, the DUTA office bearers also said the university departments were yet to clear the salaries of ad-hoc and guest teachers. “It seems that departments are still awaiting necessary approvals from the university,” the letter said.

DUTA said the ad-hoc teachers have been paid salaries only till February 29 in some cases and till March 20 for some others.

Extension of appointments

The DUTA also said that ad-hoc teachers are yet to receive approvals for their appointment, though they have been teaching from the beginning of the semester for which they were appointed. “Heads of Departments are hesitant to fill the required information in the form sent out in the absence of these approvals,” the letter said.

This is causing financial hardships to the ad-hoc teachers, the letters pointed out. “This delay in completing required formalities have denied financial security to these teachers. Salaries and honorarium are often delayed for months together but a delay in the current situation is causing much hardship to teachers.”

Rejoining of teachers

In another appeal, DUTA asked the university to allow ad-hoc teachers to give their re-joining via email.
The requirements of physical signed copies for attendance of teachers can be maintained when the situation normalises, the letter said.

Educational institutions across the country are closed amidst the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
