NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, has issued a revised academic calendar for technical institutions. As per the revised calendar, the last date for the grant of approval to technical institutions has been extended to June 15, also extending the deadline for engineering counselling dates and affiliation dates.

As per the revised calendar, the first round of counselling for allotment of engineering seats has extended to August 15 from June 30. The last date of filling up seats against vacancies has been extended to August 31 from the previous date of August 15.

aictenoticeThe AICTE invited application for grant of approval for the academic year 2020- 2021 in February 2020, the process requires scrutiny for verification of documents followed by the expert committee visit and other processes as specified in the Approval Process Handbook (APH) of the council. “However, due to the spread of coronavirus (COVID- 19) disease, and the lockdown throughout the nation, the process of approval could not be completed within the timeline as specified in the APH,” says AICTE letter.

Beginning of session

The AICTE circular states that the academic session will commence from August 1 for the existing students, except for PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) courses. The classes for PGDM courses will commence from July 1.

The academic cycle of PGDM courses for fresh batch has been pushed by a month as now it will begin from August 1, 2020, and get over by July 21, 2021; instead of the earlier schedule of July to June end.

The last date for admission to open and distance learning courses has remained unchanged, for July and January cycle.

The last date for submitting the online application was February 28 for new institutions and March 5 for the existing institutions. The AICTE notice reads: “On receipt of the direction from the apex court, AICTE shall take necessary steps in granting approvals to the rest of the applications from the existing Institutions and for the establishment of new institutions, using online meeting platforms for the conduct of Scrutiny/ EVC.”
