NEW DELHI: FLAME University, Pune, organised a mock parliament, aimed at empowering its students, a statement from the university said. The mock parliament was held with the collaboration of FLAME centre for legislative education and research and the parliamentary research service (PRS).

As many as 100 students participated in the mock parliament, who were divided into more than 25 teams across ten fields of study – law, commerce, engineering, public policy, international relations, English and liberal arts – a statement issued by the university said. The students participating in the mock parliament belonged to ten different institutes of Pune.

Events at the mock parliament

An icebreaker conducted by PRS marked the beginning of the mock parliament. The fields of view’s constitution exercise gave the students an insight on the various provisions of the constitution. The second half of the mock parliament included a question hour, which was followed by resolution discussion and voting on universal basic income.

This was followed by discussion and voting on the data protection bill. During the ‘question hour’, each team answered as a ministry.Maya Dodd, Professor at Faculty of humanities at the university said, “FLAME centre for legislative education and research takes great pride in providing a platform for young minds to better understand the legislative process while simulating parliamentary sessions. We believe that our youth has the potential to serve as future leaders and decision makers, and we are committed to helping them develop the skills they need to make a positive impact on society”.

Towards the end of the event, an award ceremony was held. Students from FLAME University, Symbiosis Law school, Savitribai Phule University, Deccan Education society’s Fergusson College and Modern College won awards as best parliamentarians.
