FMGE June 2026: NBEMS expert panel to review key concerns raised by candidates

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has assured Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) June 2026 candidates that an expert committee will go through concerns raised over difficulty level of examination and will submit its findings within two weeks. FMGE candidates sat on a day-long protest at Jantar Mantar, alleging that the test included advanced and time-consuming questions, technical glitches and poor conditions at examination centres. The announcement comes after representatives of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) and the expert committee constituted by NBEMS met on August 3 to examine issues related to conduct of FMGE June 2026.

The committee would undertake a comprehensive review of overall difficulty level of question papers of last three FMGE examinations. It will also examine whether the questions asked in the June 2026 examination were at the MBBS Exit level.

Another key issue raised by candidates was the use of video-based questions in examination. The committee will check if such questions had any impact on time provided to attempt examination.

Complaints to be investigated

The committee will also investigate complaints regarding examination centre infrastructure. It will examine issues related to ventilation and other examination-related facilities at certain centres to determine if such conditions may have affected candidates' performance.

The committee has also agreed to examine the existing regulatory and legal framework governing the disclosure of question papers, answer keys and other matters related to transparency in light of the representations submitted by candidates.

In addition, it will review instances where candidates reportedly obtained identical marks across different FMGE sessions. The committee will also examine the existing statutory and regulatory provisions governing FMGE qualifying criteria and assess whether any relaxation or compensation is legally permissible under the current framework.

The meeting was chaired by Air Marshal (Dr.) Pawan Kapoor (Retd.), Chairperson of the Expert Committee. Dr. Minu Bajpai, Vice President of NBEMS, also attended as a member of the committee. Dr. Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and a member of the committee, could not attend due to official commitments.

Representatives of Foreign Medical Graduates, including members of AIMSA, participated in the discussions and presented their concerns before the committee.
