NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 25: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has termed Dr Savita’s appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University (FRIDU), in violation of rules framed for maintaining the standards of higher education.

The petition was filed before the Delhi High Court by Hilaluddin, a former scientist with the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. The petitioner sought to quash Dr Savita’s appointment claiming that she did not have the requisite qualification to be appointed as the Vice Chancellor.

Reportedly, the Commission in its response submitted to the Delhi High Court has said that Dr Savita, who is a bureaucrat has been appointed by violating rules of appointment. As per the UGC, an ‘academician’ with a minimum of 10 years of experience as a professor, can be appointed as the VC.

The UGC in its affidavit filed before the High Court submitted, “There is nothing on record to show that the Respondent No. 4 Deemed University has followed the above regulations in the present case.”

The Delhi HC has posted the case for hearing on October 16.
