NEW DELHI: The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2023 day 2 exam commences today in two shifts i.e., forenoon and afternoon. IIT Kanpur is organizing the GATE 2023 exam. Candidates who will be appearing in the exam on the other dates will have to carry the GATE admit card 2023 after downloading it from the official website, gate.iitk.ac.in.

IIT GATE exam 2023 was held for a duration of 3 hours. The first shift started at 9:30 am and ended 12:30 pm and the second shift was from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. There are a total of 29 papers. GATE aspirants to appearing in the exam were required to reach the GATE examination centre at least 60 minutes before the commencement of exam. While shift 1 was held for Computer Science and Information Technology (CS) paper and shift 2 was held for Architecture and Planning (AR) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) papers.

GATE 2023 exam day guidelines

  • Candidates are required to report to the exam centre an hour before the exam commences.
  • Applicants taking the GATE exam are required to adhere to all COVID-19 regulations at the exam centre.
  • Candidates are required to take off their face masks only during biometric verification.
  • After the end of the exam, applicants must submit the scribble pad to the invigilator.
  • Virtual scientific calculators will be accessible on all applicants' computer screens to be utilized for numerical calculations.

The unofficial key will be released by the institutes and coaching centres soon. This answer key will be memory based. IIT Kanpur will release the official key online after the completion GATE 2023 exam. GATE is a national-level entrance exam, conducted for candidates seeking admission in MTech, doctoral programmes offered by the GATE score accepting institutes.

In case, GATE qualified candidates require the softcopy of their GATE scorecard after May 31 and till December 31, they will need to pay a fee of Rs 500 per paper for obtaining the same. GATE 2023: Code of conduct

  • Candidates appearing for GATE 2023 examination must carry admit card and original valid photo-identity proof (which was used at the time of registration) inside the examination hall.
  • Scribble pad will be provided to the candidate in the examination hall by the invigilator. The same should be used for all rough work. Candidates must write their name and registration number on the scribble pad before they start using it. The candidate can possess only one scribble pad at any point in time. Before taking the second scribble pad, if required, the first scribble pad must be returned to the invigilator. Any scribble pad in the possession of the candidate must be returned to the invigilators after the end of the examination.
  • Carrying mobile phones (even in the switched-off mode), watches of any form and calculators inside the examination hall is strictly prohibited.
  • Carrying of any electronic/ communication devices, wallets, papers, loose sheets, pen/pencil box/pouch, and printed or hand-written textual materials, inside the examination hall is strictly prohibited.
  • All means of communication (verbal or otherwise) among the candidates inside the examination hall are strictly prohibited.
  • If any of the prohibited acts or items listed above is detected during the examination, it will automatically lead to cancellation of candidature. Results will not be declared for such candidates.
  • The organising institute / concerned examination centre will not take any kind of responsibility regarding the safety and security of mobile phones / electronic devices / any kind of valuables belonging to candidates.
  • Candidates must not tamper with the computer and the related hardware provided in the examination hall. Candidates found to have tampered with these wilfully will have their candidature cancelled summarily. In addition, appropriate legal action will be initiated against such candidates.
  • If Covid 19 pandemic situation continues, the candidate must follow all the safety regulations at the examination premises as instructed by GATE Committee in line with the government guidelines. Failure to fulfil any of the specified norms will lead to the cancellation of candidature at any point of time.

GATE architecture syllabus 2023

According to the GATE architecture syllabus 2023, apart from the GA section, the question paper consists of two parts: Part A (60 marks) and Part B (25 marks). Part A is compulsory for all the candidates. Part B contains two parts: Part B1 (Architecture) and Part B2 (Planning). Candidates will have to attempt questions in Part A and questions in either Part B1 or Part B2 of Part B. The choice of Part B1 OR Part B2 can be made during examination.

  • Part A consists of 39 questions carrying a total of 60 marks: 18 questions carrying 1-mark each (subtotal 18 marks) and 21 questions carrying 2-marks each (sub-total 42 marks). Some are MCQ type questions, while the remaining may be MSQ and / or NAT questions.
  • Either section of Part B [Part B1 (Architecture) and Part B2 (Planning)] consists of 16 questions carrying a total of 25 marks: 7 questions carrying 1-mark each (sub-total 7 marks) and 9 questions carrying 2-marks each (subtotal 18 marks).

GATE negative marking system 2023

According to the GATE negative marking system, for a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking. For one-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer and for two-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. However, there is no negative marking for wrong answers to MSQ and NAT questions.

Question: What is the dress code for GATE exam 2023?

Answer: The GATE 2023 dress code:

  • The candidates are advised not to wear any clothes made of metallic items, or buttons.
  • Candidates must avoid wearing such clothing containing too many pockets.
  • Candidates must avoid wearing any kind of shrug/stole/ dupatta or scarf.
  • Candidates must not wear any kind of jewelry or ornaments. These items will be strictly restricted inside the examination hall.
  • Candidates will not be allowed to wear a cap/ muffler or any cloth to cover their heads.
  • Candidates must wear light-weight and comfortable clothes to avoid any discomfort during the exam.
  • Candidates must not be wearing any kind of jewelry or ornaments such as rings, watches, and belts.
  • Candidates are advised to wear Flip-flops or sandals. Avoid shoes or any other footwear covering feet.
  • Candidates must not wear goggles, rings, bracelets, or any of such items.
