While sharing tips with GATE aspirants, Praveen Kulkarni, Unacademy Educator said: "It is also critical to maintain your calm and keep an eye on the time during the exam because any errors or setbacks on the two factors during the exam could set you back by a few marks and impact the result".

In addition, staying calm and keeping an eye on the time during the exam is imperative because any setbacks or errors on either factor could result in losing a few marks. The numericals, especially, should be attempted with focus to avoid missing out on scoring questions. Every section and unit must be tackled and cleared.

Here is a list of essential section tips that will help boost the preparation for the GATE 2023 exam.

Section (A): General Aptitude, Maths, and English

  • Since Maths has a fixed weightage between carrying 13% to 15% marks of the overall paper, the subject must be the primary focus. While multiple revisions can help aspirants benefit from the practice, it's also advisable to prepare short notes of the formulae so that its easily accessible for quick revisions just before the exams.
  • The importance of aptitude in the exam is the same as that of Mathematics, so both should be equally focused on, for obtaining a high score.
  • English can be covered in an average pace with an emphasis on previous years questions (PYQs) for easy reference.
  • Lenghty questions that require in-depth responses are better tackled towards the end in order to save time and bandwidth while clearing the paper.

Section (B): Technical Subjects

The questions in Section B of the exam, which is the aspirant’s chosen branch (subject), will be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NATs) questions.

  • Aspirants must cover the core subjects and have a deep understanding of every concept so that it can help boost the overall grading.
  • Furthermore, it is recommended that the numericals of core subjects be practiced often in order to save time on exam day.
  • During the final stages of the preparation, short notes including all the essential formulas, topics etc save aspirants’ time on quick revisions and will come in handy.
  • Revise each subject thoroughly after it is completed and keep following the pattern for a better revision plan.
  • During the course of studying for the core engineering branch, aspirants should try to solve previous years' GATE questions while touching upon the key topics from each of these papers.
  • Aspirants must select new types of questions so that they are accustomed to the various patterns of questions that could appear.
  • It is important to practise calculating with the virtual calculator to ensure it is easy to tackle even during the mains.
  • Avoid tackling MCQs that might not be clear; this will help aspirants skip out on negative marks.
